Famous Couple: Snow White & Prince Charming

I found these vintage postage stamps that truly inspired me

With two movies this summer and a tv series telling her story, Snow White has been a hot topic these last few months. I wanted to make my own rendition of what Snow White's wedding would encompass. Here are some fun facts about the fairytale:

• She would have had 7 important groomsmen

• In the original Grimm tale, the evil queen is actually her mother

• In some stories Snow White is said to live with 40 dragons rather than 7 dwarfs

• Rather than a kiss awakening her, the original story recounts that an apple slice is dislodged from her throat and then she awakens

Here is the inspiration board I came up with:

DIY Rice Favors

image via Style Me PrettyAre you a DIY bride? Or do you have friends and family that don't mind getting their hands dirty for your sake? I found these party favors at Style Me Pretty and love love love them. I've been vigorously working with some paper lines from SEI right now (can't say why, but I'll let you know in a few weeks). They have their Field Notes paper line that would be perfect for these favors, or any outdoor wedding ideas/decor! Using this paper line you could make 24 favors for under $10 using the Butterfly Collection paper and an assortment of six other papers you like.

Famous Couple: Rhett & Scarlett

Growing up, a classic that I loved to read, watch and breathe was Gone with the Wind (I even had the Scarlett Barbie). I imagined the grand entrance to Tara ushering me in with its live oaks and spanish moss. I always wished I could transport myself to the grand picnics, balls and dress in the elaborate gowns. There is something about the fashions in the mid-victorian era that encompass femininity. I imagined Rhett & Scarlett's wedding being the talk of the century, giving opulence it's true meaning. Black, ivory and gold seemed befitting for the love story that we've all come to love. It is a palette that really captures the aristocratic event that it would have been.

Mid-Victorian History:

• Victorian Era was from 1837-1901, during the reign of Queen Victoria

• Most popular engagement rings consisted of diamonds and pearls, in a tiara setting (click here to view)

• Gone with the Wind took place during the Civil War, which in fashion history was during the Mid-Victorian Era

• Dresses were still full hoop skirts but were moving towards the flat front bustle gowns that ended the Victorian Era

Receptions + Kids

I remember being little and getting dragged to weddings. At that age I swore that when I got married, I was going to make it so that every kid had the best time ever! I remembered that today, and wanted to share some ideas on how to keep the kiddos happy when you're planning. These ideas will not only keep them entertained but also enhance the decor at your fiesta!

Indoor Reception: Tee-Pee's

Not only can you design whatever you want on the outside of this huge blank canvas, but you could also place some fun activities within each different tent (i.e. coloring, reading, etc.)

Outdoor Reception: Ice Cream Truck/Stand

I think you'll have a few big kids lining up to get in on the ice cream action. Memorable and fun for everyone!

Activities: Kid station, face painting, & chalk-board placemats

A little outside the box, but imagine how beautiful a face painting with your wedding colors could be...

Rings n' things

My cousin Nikki just got engaged this weekend, whoo hoo! So i've got rings on the brain. Her fiancé had a gorgeous ring made for her. It's a round diamond with an octagon halo around it. I started looking online for custom ring options and came across Brilliant Earth. It's pretty cool to play around with. You just pick your diamond, setting and budget and voila, a ring is born. On top of having innovative design software, Brilliant Earth focuses on providing conflict-free diamonds. They also donate 5% of their profits to diamond communities in Africa harmed by the diamond industry.

Visit their site and create something beautiful! The above ring is what I created (if I just had 10K lying around).

Wanderfly, for those with Wanderlust

I think one of the most exciting parts of a wedding, besides the invitations of course, is planning your honeymoon. I think it's a symbolic part of your marriage. It sets you off into the world on your first adventure as a married entity. While browsing around the web, I came across Wanderfly. To me, it would be a wonderful way to plan your trip or at least give you ideas.

Wanderfly allows for you to enter your starting point, interests, budget (per person), travel season and dates. With just putting in hypothetical information, it gave me three destination to visit, two of which I had never considered. By upping my budget just $200 more, it gave me 10 options! Even if you have a destination picked out it's definitely a site worth visiting. It may just inspire you!
